Power to the People! Aquarius New Moon

Power to the People is the anthem of the Aquarian Age and that is where we are headed.  Aquarius is the sign of revolution and its modern ruler, Uranus, was discovered around the time of the American and French Revolutions. This New Moon at Aquarius 9 degrees is revealing to us that these energies are active right now. A globalized prayer for peace and love combined with mobilization of action is called for in these challenging times. Aquarius reminds us how much more powerful we are together than alone. “Alone the candle is a fragile flickering light. Shared by millions, it becomes a shining beacon of hope.” (Unknown)

We are living in dangerous and scary times; the only way to survive them is to love and protect each other. We had a powerful coming together of people at the Women’s March last weekend to remind us of just how powerful we are when we work together. More than 4.5 million people worldwide marched to make this new administration aware of the power of the feminine. There is an old Chinese proverb that says, “When sleeping women wake, mountains move.” By all indications the power of the Feminine is waking up.

Aquarius recognizes the God in everyone and so the word “Namaste” comes to mind as the core of Aquarian energy. Namaste has many translations but only one universal intention which is “The Divine Light in me recognizes the Divine Light in you.” That is why Aquarius is such a humanitarian sign and fights for the rights of all beings. If there is an Aquarian religion it is kindness.

Aquarius recognizes the power of the group and working together cooperatively to make life better for all but it has a large shadow as well. The power of the group can turn into a mob mentality and complete anarchy if the consciousness of the group is not sufficiently evolved. For the group or community of people to stay conscious and not devolve into anarchy requires deep personal work on an individual level. This Aquarian New Moon sits at the midpoint of a very tight Saturn in Sagittarius square Venus/Chiron in Pisces which is about deep personal work.

Venus and Chiron conjunct in Pisces tells us that healing comes through forgiveness and compassion. One aspect of Venus is self-worth, how we love ourselves. In a square to Saturn, how we judge ourselves and each other is activated. We are being challenged to release all judgement and radically forgive ourselves and others for being less than perfect. We learn through our mistakes. Saturn in Sagittarius asks us to let go of self-limiting beliefs, especially related to feeling separate or isolated from Source and from each other. We are all connected energetically. I have read that the energy field around the heart extends to more than 8 feet. We don’t know how far it extends only because we do not yet have the technology to measure it but I am sure that is where we are connected. When we lead from the heart we can affect change in our world as we energetically touch those around us.

Uranus, the planet of revolution and awakening, is in a beneficent trine to Saturn. In Sagittarius, Saturn is showing us our vision for the future and how to manifest it. In Aries, Uranus asks us to be bold and creative in our visioning. We are in a paradigm shift which includes shedding our dependence on fossil fuels. Gregg Braden says that we already have all the technology we need to create an energy infrastructure based on renewables. He says the problem is that we don’t yet believe it, we believe we still need to depend on fossil fuels. Our beliefs create our world and we can change our beliefs.

Uranus is in a waning square (a challenge) to the Pluto/Mercury conjunction in Capricorn. As I write this article today I have seen news stories concerning journalists who face felony riot charges for filming protests at the inauguration and eight states that want to make protesting illegal. Mercury is our voice, our perception of the world and how we communicate. Mercury, when in aspect to Pluto and Uranus,  can indicate unexpected suppression of our voices, our First Amendment Rights. There are also reports of the new administration employing “alternative facts.” An important quote to remember in these challenging times is from George Orwell in his book “1984”, “The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” We must continue to speak truth to power and believe what we see and hear, not what we are told.

At this Aquarian New Moon the Chinese New Year begins and we enter the Year of the Fire Rooster. Rooster reminds us to remain vigilant but to also maintain our optimism and sense of humor in the coming year.

The Sabian Symbol for Aquarius 9 degrees is “A Flag Is Seen Turning Into An Eagle.” This symbol could be seen as the USA becoming more nationalistic as our new administration is declaring. A more evolved perspective is to recognize the powerful spiritual significance of the eagle. For many societies the eagle is sacred and an embodiment of the Great Spirit. This Sabian Symbol could be indicating the possibility of spiritual enlightenment. For as herbs that struggle to grow have more medicine, so our struggles can help us grow. It is also important to remember the eagle’s vision. The eagle soars above the rest of us and can see the whole picture while those of us that are earthbound can only see a piece of what is happening. The star constellation of Aquila, the Eagle, occurs in the proximity of Aquarius and is often identified with Aquarius and its visionary energy.

As we move out of the Age of Pisces into the age of Aquarius, there is no one coming to save us. We must make this shift into a new paradigm ourselves. I have come to understand that the shift is created by making conscious choices of love, kindness, compassion and forgiveness in each moment. It takes courage to walk in this world with our hearts open and yet be firm, rejecting any behaviors of hate or fear. The outer world is mirroring our collective heart and right now it is not pretty, even with all of the gains we have made.  It feels like we as a society and as a species are at a crossroads and as W. H. Auden said, “We must love one another or die.” The time is now and the choice is ours.
