Libra New Moon, Sept 30, 2016 at 5:13 pm PDT
“No Justice! No Peace!” The chant of political activists calling attention to so many situations of injustice around the world is appropriate at this New Moon at 9 degrees of Libra. It is bringing issues of injustice to the forefront. The symbol for Libra is the scales and when imbalanced they show us where we have veered from the path of cosmic order. In ancient Egypt the concept of cosmic order which is justice, truth and balance, was called ma’at which became the Goddess, Ma’at. “
Natural law is aligned with the cosmic order of things and we are out of balance with natural law. The signs are everywhere that we are not in right relationship with Mother Earth and all Her beings. The concept of cause and effect is an aspect of ma’at. There is nothing in this web of creation that does not affect the whole pattern because everything is connected. How can we bring our lives and our world back into balance and right relationship with natural law?
Jupiter, the bringer of good fortune and opportunity, has just recently moved into Libra and is conjunct this New Moon. Issues of justice and balance will be prevalent for the next year with opportunities to address them. One way to bring our lives and our world back into balance and in alignment with natural law is through the Libran gift of empathy. We have the opportunity to choose to be kind and gracious when we remember that we all have our struggles. There is a meme going around on FaceBook that says to always be kind for we do not know what struggles another person may be going through. Yogananda says, “Kindness is the light that dissolves all walls between souls, families and nations.”
Kindness may seem like a small thing but it is so important in bringing our world back into balance. It is a small step that can make a big difference. Choosing to be kind to all beings and to Mother Earth consists of taking steps graciously that make this world a better place. There is so much anger, fear and rancor aimed towards those who are different from us or who hold different life perspectives. The world can hold all of those differences but without kindness and empathy those differences threaten to tear our world apart. “If there is a choice to be right or kind, always choose kindness. For then you will always be right.” Author unknown
Libra is the sign that brings interpersonal relationships into focus. How are we relating to those we love? With Jupiter traveling through Libra for the next year it is important to remember how much we love and need each other. When we tell someone how much we care for them, it allows our hearts to open and love to flow. It raises the vibration here on Mother Earth. Someone called recently just let me to know how much she cared, she was a friend I had not heard from for a while. That phone call lifted my spirits and changed my day.
Mars in Capricorn is square the New Moon and Jupiter. Mars is the warrior energy, standing for those who cannot defend themselves and is the planet of action. Capricorn has to do with integrity. We all must have the courage to stand in our integrity for what is right and just. This is a time to take action to right the injustices that are occurring and bring our world back into balance. There are so many ways to stand up and support such movements as Black Lives Matter and the water protests at Standing Rock or independent media such as “Democracy Now!” There are so many ways to participate; find the issue and the way that speaks most loudly to you. The world desperately needs warriors for justice now.
The world is in chaos with all of the change that is occurring. The Universe is attempting to pull us back into cosmic order and that adjustment can be difficult, even painful. In the process of awakening we are suffering the effects of our past actions. As the chaos of change intensifies, fear also increases with the potential to control us. Libra is the sign of peace and inner harmony, that is the Libra’s goal; it shows us when and how we are most out of balance. We are constantly being bombarded with messages of fear, especially now. It is so important to stay centered and not react to the fear propaganda so we can make choices born of love, not fear.
At this Libra New Moon it is good to remember that which we do not like in others is often a reflection of something within ourselves. It is the same with the outer world, it is only a collective reflection of what is going on inside each of us. To bring our world back into balance, we must start from within.
A wonderful way to shift our consciousness from fear to love is through prayers of gratitude. I studied with the International Council of the Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers for a few years. One of the most important teachings I received from them was how to pray with gratitude, to acknowledge my blessings no matter how small. I start my day saying, “Thank you Creator for my life,” every morning, all day long and are the last words I say at night. This prayer changed my life perspective which then changed my life; it helped me shift out of fear into love and out of victimhood into self-empowerment. I felt held by the Universe. This prayer of gratitude gave me a sense of inner peace that I had never felt before. When we can act from that place of inner peace to rectify the injustice in our world, we will have become truly aligned with cosmic order. We will then have justice and peace both born of love.
“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” Meister Eckhart
