Aquarius Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse- July 27, 2018 1:20 pm PDT
Have you ever wanted to go back in time, especially to deal with a relationship or situation that felt unhealed or unfinished? Now is that time. The doors to the past swing wide open for healing ourselves and our relationships with others, family, lovers and friends. People from our past, this lifetime, and others may reappear. This Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse at Aquarius 5 degrees is tightly conjunct the South Node of Moon which symbolizes our past, especially our karmic past. A powerful portal opens that allows old emotional patterns and/or trauma to be released from the unconscious. As these old wounds come into our awareness we can see them for what they are, and the light can transmute them into love. The message of this eclipse is that before we can move forward we must heal the past, on many levels.
At Lunar Eclipses, the light of the Sun that is usually reflected by the Full Moon is blocked by the shadow of the Earth. This allows for very different energies to enter our electromagnetic field, more cosmic mysterious energies. A total lunar eclipse is when the Moon turns red and is called a “Blood Moon.” We may feel the energy for about 18 days before and after the eclipse. What is different about this lunar eclipse is that it lasts longer than any other lunar eclipse in the 21st century. The whole event will last about four hours with totality lasting for one hour and forty-three minutes. By contrast, the totality of the Solar Eclipse on August 21, 2017 lasted only two minutes 40 seconds so one can see that the length of this one is much longer. The effects of a lunar eclipse usually last around six months but due to the length of this one, the effects will last much longer.
Lunar eclipses by nature have more to do with our personal lives or relationships. Often something that has been hidden from us may come into conscious awareness during this time. We may find out necessary truths that are painful but important to know so we can confront them, heal them and move forward with our lives. Or we may discover something wonderful, a big surprise that changes our lives completely.
Mars retrograde in Aquarius is also conjunct this lunar eclipse bringing in the idea of trauma, personal and collective, coming into conscious awareness. When Mars is retrograde he is closest to the Earth so can appear much larger. Mars is very visible in the night sky right now and appears as a reddish light. Emotions can run high with Mars involved and unprocessed anger can erupt unexpectedly. A major teaching of Mars is also about setting good boundaries, saying no when necessary. Mars is also Out of Bounds, so the very old toxic shadow aspect of masculine energy is very present but ready to be purged so we can move forward with a new healthy vision of masculinity. It is so important to stay centered and nonreactive as this very challenging energy arises.
This Lunar Eclipse is tightly conjunct the South Node of the USA’s natal chart. As I said the South Node of the Moon has to do with karma, so the karma of the United States is up for review. On a national level, things that have been hidden have been coming to light and will continue to do so. We know that the winners write the history and much of what we have been told about our past has been dishonest and slanted. Now is the time for honesty and ownership so there is an opportunity for the karma to be resolved and things made right.
Courage is one of the primary teachings of Mars and one cannot have courage without fear. We will be meeting our edges, old emotional patterns based in fear may rise into consciousness. Fear often feels like contractions and we may have difficulty remembering to breathe but conscious breathing is what will help us move the energy. When we can recognize what is happening and consciously breathe into the spaces between our cells we can expand our energy field and allow the old energy patterns to move. As we do we may receive deep insights related to those old fear-based patterns. They may be related to old memories from this life or past lives that may surface now which allow us to break free from the past.
Another important facet of this Lunar Eclipse is that Uranus in Taurus is in a square to the eclipse, which is a challenge. Uranus in Taurus can bring turbulent and unpredictable weather, as if what we are experiencing now is not challenging enough. One of the most important teachings of Uranus in Taurus is about staying grounded in these times of great change. I have recently been struggling with bouts of nausea if I am at the computer or just simply indoors too long. The only thing that helps is going outdoors and putting my bare feet on the ground or taking a long walk. Really pay attention to the messages from the body for with Uranus in Taurus, the body itself is one of our primary teachers.
Uranus in Taurus is also revealing to us the consciousness of Mother Earth on very deep levels. We may receive downloads from Her consciousness at the Lunar Eclipse giving us guidance and reminding us of Her love. This Lunar Eclipse is opening a gateway to the past, our karmic, ancestral and spiritual past. Part of that past is our deep connection to Mother Earth and Her wisdom. She needs us all to be paying close attention to Her messages now and remembering our deep connection to Her. This is a highly psychic time and our intuition is finely tuned to receive these messages.
There are five planets retrograde at this eclipse which tells us to slow down and go within to retrieve information from the past as the Sabian Symbol for Aquarius 5 degrees indicates, “A Council Of Ancestors Has Been Called to Guide A Man.” At this eclipse not only are we healing the past but we are also being given guidance from the ancient wisdom of our ancestors. There is much we need to remember about who we are as human beings, our true history and our connection to Mother Earth. As the fear and darkness is released personally and collectively it allows for wisdom from the past to emerge to help guide us into creating the future. It is important to understand that our history is not linear, and the ancients knew much that needs to be remembered. Aquarius has to do with a new vision for the future, but this eclipse reminds us that there are times we must heal the past before we can move forward, and this is one of those times. As this portal to the past is opened to allow the healing to take place, the karmic degree Sabian Symbol for this eclipse says, “A Hindu Healer Glows With A Mystic Healing Power.” As we move into the Aquarian Age, we must remember that it is the Love of the Divine that will truly heal us. Aquarius reminds us that we are that love; the mystical healing power is the love, compassion and forgiveness that lives within each of our hearts. We must go back to heal our hearts, so we can move forward into the Light and create a new world.
