Creating Form Out of the Formless- Capricorn New Moon Solar Eclipse

Capricorn New Moon Solar Eclipse- Jan 5, 2019 at 5:28 pm PST

The partial New Moon Solar Eclipse at Capricorn 16 degrees on January 5th kicks off the Saturn/Pluto conjunction that will be exact in January 2020. Even though this eclipse is only visible in parts of Asia it still packs a punch everywhere because it is conjunct Pluto and Saturn who always bring growth opportunities for our evolution. There are actually 5 planets in Capricorn at this Solar Eclipse including the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Saturn and Pluto as well as the South Node so Capricorn teachings are very powerful now and for at least the next 6 months. Solar Eclipses bring to light what has been hidden as well as many changes.

Saturn, who is the Lord of Karma, is coming together with Pluto, God of the Underworld, in Capricorn. They have a cycle where they meet in a conjunction approximately every 34 years. “The Saturn-Pluto synodic cycle is about societal structures of consciousness and how we learn about responsible use of power. These cycles can initiate a dismantling or destructive process of long-standing established administrative constructs and systems of belief so that we can evolve our societal structures. In the process, this can articulate as power struggles, wars and the like; but Saturn and Pluto will ultimately demand we take responsibility for the discord and destruction we have created.” Nick Anthony Fiorenza

This Saturn/Pluto conjunction is in Capricorn so the societal structures that are being dismantled are the halls of power in government, finance and business. These are the institutions that are the basis of our civilization and they will be going through massive changes over the next several years so we need to prepare ourselves for them. We have not had much accountability in the halls of power but that is about to change. And remember as Frederick Douglas said, “Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.”  This is a slow, evolutionary process that builds new foundations on which to prosper in coming years but it will not be easy. We must be patient and be willing to know we are in this for the long haul.

This Saturn/Pluto cycle in Capricorn also impacts each of us individually so what might be the message for us personally? Saturn is at home in Capricorn so his teachings are now very intense and they are about maturity, integrity, hard work, accountability, responsibility, wisdom, self-determination and personal authority. The Greek philosopher Heraclitus observed ethos anthropoi daimon,” most often translated as “a man’s character is his fate.”  James Q. Wilson, a social scientist, defined character as “decency, politeness, self-restraint, commitment, honesty, cooperativeness and the ability to think of others’ well-being.” Sounds like being an adult does it not?

Saturn, as the Lord of Karma, reminds us of the spiritual law that for every action taken, there is a consequence. In other words, we reap what we sow whether that be challenges or gifts. It is a time of taking responsibility for our thoughts, feelings and actions rather than blaming others. A saying that I have recently come across is an adaptation of the Serenity Prayer that says, “God grant me the serenity to accept the people that I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can and the wisdom to know it is me.”  Saturn combined with Pluto is the hard work of soul healing and breaking old patterns that lie in the unconscious or emotional body. Saturn in Capricorn has to with conditioning, especially from our ancestral line as well as society and culture. We are releasing a thousand years of conditioning so that we can make different choices about ourselves and our world.

On a collective level we are definitely reaping what we have sown on many levels such as Climate Change. Mother Earth is speaking loud and clear about all of the ways we are out of balance with Her with turbulent weather and massive Earth changes. We are also suffering the consequences of our actions in the way we treat each other such as income disparity, homelessness and war. An internet meme that is going around says, “If you export armaments, don’t complain about importing refugees.” The day of reckoning has come and these are issues that must be addressed.

Capricorn is the archetype of the Elder or Wise Woman who carries with it the wisdom that is gained only by living. Our inner wisdom is the compass we must follow and not let ourselves get detoured by pressure from others. We each know what is best for us when we listen deeply. Capricorn comes at the darkest time of the year and it is a time when many animals hibernate in their dens. Saturn and Capricorn ask us to renew ourselves with solitude so we can listen deeply to that inner wisdom that aligns us with our truth without distractions.

The ancient symbol for Capricorn is the Seagoat, half goat and half fish. Its meaning is to create form out of the formless. It is an energy of manifestation and creation. Saturn rules the material world so Saturn in Capricorn can help us manifest on the Earth plane but it is like putting together an Ikea project. One must follow the instructions or go back to the beginning and start all over. We must be in alignment with our own inner truth and do the work. There can be no skipped steps in this process. We are in a time when we must roll up our sleeves and do the work if we want to be in our personal authority, determine our own future and create what we want in our lives.

One of the biggest shadows in this time is fear. Saturn and Pluto, especially in Capricorn, can trigger some of the most wounded places in our psyche where fear resides. It is important to understand this is an evolutionary process to help us transform ourselves. A very important piece of this process is to not make choices based in fear for when we do, we are vulnerable to manipulation and dark forces.  Capricorn is the sign most associated with the patriarchy which is based on hierarchical domination and control.  We are dismantling this old system and releasing those triggers in our lives where we have plugged into the matrix of fear created by that system.

The South Node of the Moon, which has to do with our past and what needs to be released, is in Capricorn while the North Node, the way forward, is in Cancer which is the sign of Unconditional love of the Mother.  Uranus in Aries is in a challenging square to the Nodes which activates both. Uranus brings awakening and change. Capricorn refers to conditioning from the past, especially from society and long-established world views.

On Jan 3rd, the 116th US Congress being sworn in is more racially diverse with more women and LGBQT people than ever before. This new Congress is bringing  new and fresh ideas whose time has come as well as demanding accountability in the halls of power that has not been seen in many years. We are being challenged to move boldly into the future and address the serious problems we are facing with the courage to embrace change. Let us awaken to the truth of who we are and make the necessary choices to create the world we want.

If we can release ourselves from the matrix of fear that has enslaved and controlled us we can move into a higher dimension that is our birthright. Remember fear is the opposite of Love and Love is the way forward. Everything is moving us in that direction. As the old song from Bob Dylan says, “The times they are a changing” and so are we!
