New Moon at 15 degrees of Scorpio on Nov. 7, 2018 at 8:01 am PST
Behold there is magic all around us! This time of year is full of magic and mystery when the veil is thin and the ancestors are close. The New Moon is at Scorpio 15 degrees which is a powerful point in the zodiac. There is an energy vortex at 15 degrees of all the fixed signs of Scorpio, Aquarius, Taurus and Leo which is the astronomical point of the Cross-quarter days honored in the Celtic Wheel of the Year. At Scorpio 15 degrees, the communication with the other side is palpable and we can more easily call upon our Beloved Dead to ask for help and guidance. The energetic vortex is a door that opens both ways and many cross over to the other side as well.
The magic of Scorpio is healing what lies in our unconscious by bringing it to consciousness. Scorpio is the sign that asks for emotional honesty and truth. When we can be honest with ourselves about how we really feel about our lives, it can bring a painful awareness of the places where we are not happy or content. Scorpio and its ruling planet Pluto bring with them the teaching of release of what is no longer working in our lives. Like the snake that sheds its skin this is a time when we release what has died within us so we can allow it to go and purify ourselves.
Scorpio takes us deeply into the world of feeling. Some may feel the energy of a lost loved one particularly strong right now and thus a retriggering of grief. For others, as we release what is no longer true or authentic for us, we feel its loss. Loss can feel painful because we are losing a part of ourselves but as the feelings move through us, we will start to heal and be stronger for it. Many people are afraid to feel grief and thus close their hearts so they won’t feel the pain. When we close our hearts, we shut down other feelings as well such love, kindness and compassion. “If we love, we grieve. That’s the deal. That’s the pact. Grief and love are forever intertwined. Grief is the terrible reminder of the depths of our love and, like love, grief is non-negotiable.” Nick Cave, singer/songwriter.
We are being asked to open our hearts to feel, even if they break as we do so. The world needs our love, compassion and kindness again. As we continue to open our hearts, we may encounter fear and resistance from within. Fear can feel like a contraction, squeezing and making us rigid but we if we can breathe into the open spaces between our cells, we will find expansion allowing the fear to be released. This New Moon is in a trine, an easy flow, to Neptune in Pisces which reminds us that on an energetic level we are all interconnected. When we feel our own pain, we can open our hearts to feel the pain of others. A broken heart is an open heart through which we can develop compassion for ourselves and others.
This New Moon is the day after the mid-term election in the USA, so we will be amid the election results which may not actually be clear for a few days. We have been feeling the collective pain, grief and anger as to what has been happening in this country but it has also been opening our eyes to some deep truths. There is a meme going around that says, “Make America Kind Again.” For many, America has never been that kind. “The more inequality in a society, the more hate, the more dysfunction, the more mental illness, and the more physical illness,” says Dr. Gabriel Mate’, physician and author. The inequities of our society have become glaringly clear. Dr. Mate’ also says, “Violence against racial, ethnic, or religious groups is a manifestation of a society that foments division amongst people and sets people against each other.” This creates misplaced anger in relation to inequality and it is this that needs to change.
We are at a crossroads and can choose our direction, will we choose love and unity or fear and divisiveness? Remember, we create in the outer world what lives within our hearts. I read that we are in a battle for the soul of America. I believe we are in a battle for the soul of the world and our own souls. It is all about our choices now and how we choose to treat ourselves, each other and Mother Earth.
There is an opposition between a Venus/Ceres conjunction in Libra and Uranus in Aries at this New Moon. Venus and Ceres are both archetypes of the Divine Feminine and are in a challenging aspect to the God of awakening, revolution and chaos. Libra is the sign of scales bringing justice and balance. Ma’at is an Egyptian deity and concept of natural law, order and truth. The Egyptians believed that ma’at, the right order of things, is what keeps the world from falling into chaos. We have deviated far from the right order of things but the way of the heart will restore balance.
To come into right order and alignment, there must be more balance between the masculine and feminine. We have been seeing the cosmic call for more women in leadership positions and this election in the US will see that happen. It is being called the “Year of the Women” with women taking more leadership roles on many levels. As the Dalai Lama says, “The world will be saved by the Western woman.” It is up to us to stand up for truth!
With Uranus involved with this aspect, there will some surprises and upsets so get ready for some change. Mars in Aquarius is trine Venus and Ceres, so it feels also like a progressive shift is possible. It is important to remember that Uranus in Aries can bring chaos, but it is in that chaos of breakdown that breakthrough can happen and new movements are born. Uranus can also bring strong downloads that can awaken us to our own true natures. Venus and Ceres in Libra remind us that to move through the chaos and receive the downloads we must remain centered and peaceful within ourselves and connected to Mother Earth.
At this New Moon, Jupiter is in the last degree of Scorpio before he moves into Sagittarius on Nov 8th. The last degree of any sign is a signal we have one last chance to learn a teaching. The teaching of Jupiter in Scorpio is a quest for the truth as well as transformation of a belief system. There is a lot of misinformation and illusion swirling around us now symbolized by Mercury (the mind) square Neptune (illusion.) It is important to not get led astray in the distraction and deceptions but to continue to pursue what is true. Many are lost is what is called “cognitive dissonance,” the mental conflict that occurs when beliefs or assumptions are contradicted by new information. It is important to be able to change our beliefs when new information arises. We often feel the truth in our hearts even when we do not want to believe something. As Jupiter moves into his own sign of Sagittarius, he will be a light in the darkness showing us a new vision.
On the day of the election, just before the New Moon, the Nodes of the Moon change signs. The Nodes of the Moon are points of destiny showing us the past and the way forward. The North Node of the Moon (the way forward) will move into the sign of Cancer which is about the way of the heart, the Unconditional Love of the Divine Mother. In Egyptian mythology, when a person died, their heart was weighed on the scales of Ma’at. It could weigh no more than Her white feather of truth to be allowed into the Afterlife. Our hearts know what is right and true. If we listen, we will not be led astray. As we open our hearts to the mystery and the love of the Divine Mother, I offer this blessing prayer for each of you.
“May you be at peace. May your heart remain open. May you awaken to the light of your own true nature. May you be healed. May you be a source of healing for all beings.” Tibetan Buddhist Prayer
