Gemini New Moon, June 13, 2018 at 12:43 p.m. PDT
Some New Moons are like a blast of cosmic energy meant to wake us up while others are meant to help us navigate these powerful energic waters in which we are swimming. This New Moon at Gemini 23 degrees is the latter; it is teaching us how to show up and find our way in times of great change. Gemini is the sign of communication whether it is speaking or listening, teaching or writing, it is always about how to connect to this world through our intellect and curiosity. Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, is in the sign of Cancer which is ruled by the Moon and connects each of us to our deepest feelings. Mercury is in what is called Mutual Reception to the Moon as each is in the sign ruled by the other which makes this an extra strong connection.
The basic teaching of this New Moon is to speak not only from the heart but to let our hearts speak for us. Mercury in Cancer is imaginative and creative so all forms of creativity such as poetry and storytelling through writing or speaking is nourished at this time. Mercury is also “Out of Bounds” at this New Moon stimulating some iconoclastic and wild ideas, be sure to get them down. The most important communication is with our loved ones though. Often it is through relationships where we are connected by the heart that our most important conversations take place.
Mercury in Cancer is in a configuration called a t-square in which he is opposite Saturn in Capricorn and square Chiron in Aries. This is a very dynamic aspect that challenges us to grow in how we express our most authentic feelings. Chiron in Aries summons the courage to speak our deepest emotional truth, to tell people how we feel and to ask for what we want. Saturn in Capricorn holds us back due to fear of saying what is really in our hearts. With Mercury out of bounds we might be able speak up in ways we have not been able to do before. Mercury in Cancer asks us to take the risk of exposing our most tender, vulnerable places and speak from the heart as it can bring great healing, wisdom and maturity. When we let our hearts speak for us instead of our heads we can heal wounded places in ourselves which then allows our relationships to become healthier.
Aries and Capricorn and their rulers, Mars and Saturn, are also about setting boundaries, being able to say no. As we are able to identify what behaviors we can and cannot accept from those we love and speak it, we develop our personal authority. When we can say what we really want we can reclaim our voice and personal power.
Mercury opposite Saturn is also about the importance of what you say and how you say it. The first agreement in Don Miguel Ruiz’s book “The Four Agreements” is “Be Impeccable with Your Word.” As he says, “Your word is the power you have to create. Your word is the gift that comes directly from God…Regardless of what language you speak, your intent manifests through the word.” So, during this time speak thoughtfully and kindly as Saturn is the great manifestor and you will reap what you sow with your words at this time.
Mars, the ruler of Aries, is now in Aquarius and will be for most of the next 6 months. Mars goes retrograde from June 26th to August 27th, 2018, with before and after a time of much slower motion. Mars is one of the primary indicators of our drive, ambition and going after what we want. When Mars turns retrograde it is a time to reflect upon our direction and what we really do want. It may have changed since the last time we checked in with ourselves. Or maybe what we want has not changed but how we go about getting it may need to change. When Mars retrograde is when he is closest to the earth. All things Mars related, such as anger, conflict and aggression may become stronger, but it goes inward before it moves outward. It is important to check for any passive aggressive tendencies during this time.
Mars is in Aquarius, a revolutionary and visionary sign, that brings new and creative ideas to help us move into the future. Aquarius is also a sign of the collective consciousness, so it may indicate a time when the collective is ready to move, a tipping point may occur when Mars goes direct in August. It is a great time for working together for progressive movements and creating real change.
Mars in Aquarius is conjunct the South Node at this New Moon and this summer Uranus will be squaring both. The South Node represents the past with a challenge from Uranus to break free from it. There is a belief that there have been past civilizations that have had a high degree of technology who ultimately destroyed themselves through that technology. Aquarius and its ruler, Uranus, are associated with technology. With Mars in Aquarius retrograde, we are at a time when we are being asked to reflect upon our relationship with technology, both personally and collectively, and when it becomes destructive.
The place to start is with our personal relationship to technology. The shadow side of Aquarius is detachment. When we are lost in our computers, our phones and virtual reality we are not making the heart connections with others that we need and may be living in our heads, disconnected from what really matters.
One way to drop into our hearts is by putting down the technology even for an hour and go outside to connect with nature. Taurus is the sign most associated with nature. Uranus just moved into Taurus on May 15th where he will be for most of the next seven years. Uranus in Taurus is reactivating our connection to our bodies and to the consciousness of Mother Earth. When we are connected to our bodies and to nature we can easily drop down into our hearts. We will have the opportunity to learn some very profound wisdom about our relationship to Mother Earth as Uranus transits Taurus.
Uranus in Taurus is in a sextile to Mercury in Cancer which provides an opportunity to be grounded in the heart. This aligns us with our authentic self and personal power. When we speak from the heart we will be heard.
“People hear you on the level you speak to them from. When you speak with your heart, they will hear with theirs.” Marianne Williamson
